WELCOME Repats Serbia Facebook group visitors!

Woa.

I'd forgotten about my blog.  Haven't posted in a year and now the comments notifications are rolling in.

Checked the stats page, and I see my forgotten blog has been linked from a Facebook group.  This private/public therapy of mine probably got more hits tonight than in the last 6 months.

Glad you're enjoying.  Keep the comments coming!

Maybe I'll write a few more posts to keep you guys happy.

  1. Hi, Doot. Im not a repat or anything like that... I was born and raised in Serbia and I live, just like you, in Belgrade and I agree on 90% of things you wrote here :) But the question I wanted to ask you is: What were you thinking when you decided to leave the US and move here?! I mean, there must be a way to run your business without having to live here, right? Anyway, i just want you to know that there is a group of people that realise in what kind of a backward country we live in. And just one more thing, comments coming from our ex-"brothers" are just ridiculous, as if they dont live in worse shitholes than we do, lol.

    1. I came for a visit 6 years ago and was under the impression that this place had all the fundamentals to really take off - people very good with languages and generally well (formally) educated, dirt-cheap labour and massive unemployment.

I figured, "great!". I convinced my employer to open a representative office here to handle some of our back office work.

So, you can hire 7 people for the price of 3 (learning only later, to do the work of 4).

Seemed like a good idea at the time.

Now, the whole project is kind of stuck in this "is it worth it?" grey-zone. It's definitely not working out as expected. It's not losing money, but kind of on the edge.

The Serbia experiment is definitely under a question-mark.

    2. Oh there's no question mark about it. Time to move on. Seriously....don't waste your evident genius on us...it would be a travesty.....

  2. Doot, I wholeheartedly agree with you, SERBIA SUCKS. I'll soon start a blog like yours telling about the HORRIBLE experiences I went through during my 1-year long stay in that country. Exceptions exist, but for the most part Serbs are a bunch of poorly-educated peasants brainwashed by their Orthodox Christianity. Props for the blog, keep it going man.

ugh,let me ask you, fool. What bunch are YOU?????Looks like, our modern Orthodox Paris-Hiltonism has washed your brains, too. Otherwise you wouldn't have given such a gay definition of the nation of heroes. Props for my Serbian bros

    3. Yeah, it's pretty pathetic to say "Exceptions exist, but for the most part Serbs are a bunch of poorly-educated peasants brainwashed by their Orthodox Christianity". I am Serb, I am agnostic, but I respect Orthodox Christianity (as well as any other religion), and I think that you need to inform yourself a bit more about it. First learn, than criticize.

    4. His language is pretty harsh, but what do you say about these church-sponsored thugs who picketed some art exhibit a few years ago. There had to have a lot of police to protect the gallery attendees from them

There's a dark and violent side to the Serbian Orthodox Church

  3. Serbs (for the most part, respect for the exception) are secular people, too traditional, stuck in the middle ages, lazy by nature, corrupt and ultra proud.

  4. First off, I'm an American that has been living in Serbia for 6 months. I got here by searching "Serbia Sucks" in my google search. My last 30 minutes have consisted of me nodding in agreement and giggling like a school girl.

    Thank You!!!
