'Anonymous' commentators

Hello fans/friends/frennemies.

I truly love all the comments I get on this bog.  I enjoy them all.

I wish I could disable 'anonymous' posting.  I could force people to log into google and post from a verified account, but I definitely don't want to do that.  I want people to be able to post anonymously, but I would rather that people select "name/url" and type a name, any name.

It doesn't reveal your identity in any way, but it would be a little more interesting if one could differentiate between posters and it wasn't all just "anonymous".

Would you do me the favor?  :)

  2. Hello! I would like to stay "Anonymous" if you dont mind :)
I was reading your blog and its so funny so I had to make a comment! :)
First, I am Serbian and everything you are saying is true :) I spend some time in USA (I think you are an American) so I would to make some comparison. First, Serbian banks and Serbian custom service sucks! I couldnt believe how nice was to me when I first time enter in American bank. I told that guy: " I am not a millionaire...Why are you so nice to me?"
Second, the situation in Serbia is this- yes its freer, but that freedom means if you kill or steal, you will probably get away with it. In America and in EU there are rules. Here we dont have any rules and the situation in which is serbia now, is anarchy.
Third, haha, I was always asked myself the same question about fork and our history. First, even if we made fork- why is that so fucking important?! Second, we are proud of our history, but wait! Which history we have comparing with China or India? Moreover, we are always underline how Serbia has history and USA doesnt have...Well, honestly I dont fucking care, cuz you know what? USA has future and Serbia does not! You cant live all your life in fucking past- middle age and Kosovo battle! I want to have future, space center, good health care!
Only thing I disagree with you is Tito, because that time was good. And you know why? Maybe we werent so rich like USA or EU, but we had one thing which America has now. That is hope. Just hope. Nothing else.
Another thing which made me laugh is nightlife in Belgrade! ahaha!
Dont get me wrong, I am very very mad on my country because its really sucks, but in USA is not perfect also. I have never had sex for one night nor I plan to have, but you know Americans are bit "pigs" you know...They will have sex with you and then just leave....
But even they are a bit pigs, I have to confess something like anonymous serbian girl :) Guys in USA are so, so fucking hot that I couldnt believe! I think that Usa is last country in which I would expect to find hot guys...And that is only thing which miss me here...to see extremely hot guys on the street- black, white, Asian etc....And I would tell you why:
first, they are dont have so many complex like serbs, second- they are not attached with their mums! Oh. My. God. If somebody told me that there are guys who are not associated with umbilical cord to the their mothers, I would never believe him. And they care about their looks, appearance, speech etc...And in Serbia if you are guy and take care about your look, everybody will think that you are gay. And at the end, you have guys like, from stone age. Oh yes I forgot to mention! Well even worst are guys from Bosnia, Croatia and Montenegro.

So I had to write this cuz this is my therapy also. Custom service and hot guys is something I miss the most.
But anyway, I hope you will have good time at the end here :) and keep write your blog its so funny! :)

    1. not just men, but mostly men, you are right.

It's nice and all to have tighter family units, but I find shocking how tied to their parents people are. I think that's a fundamental reason why this country is so stagnant. People aren't used to taking risks all on their own.

      Delete
    2. I think people are connected to their families because there's simply no opportunity to be successful in life without financial support from their parents.

I mean, most people in Serbia live with their parents well into their 30s, some never leave their family home. That doesn't necessarily mean that they have a deep emotional connection to their parents. There are no jobs, the average monthly income is 350-400 euros, so people remain dependent on their parents even as adults.

    3. Well Stefan, I agree that in Western countries you have better financial situation and more opportunities to be successful in your life. But, money is not the only problem here. The problem is that people especially guys are controlled by their mums.
I have many friends from Latin America. For example, in Argentina, family is also very important. Young people dont have money also like we. But the difference is that Latino gays are not controlled by their mums. Here mum is everything- she decide what are you going to eat, to wear, which girl you are going to date...they very often do not allow their sons to move in another country etc...And as result you have guys who are behaving like teenagers...That is the case with girls, but girls are more freer to decide what they are going to do in their life.
I wrote this because there is one misconception about serbian culture. Everybody thinks that we are extremely patriarchal society and people do believe that women are somehow torture here- they dont have rights etc... But the reality is that women actually control men- usually their sons. Because family expect from them to take care about family, to be the head of family. Women are also tied with their parents, but usually family do not mix in their private life and she is free to do what she wants.

But like I said, Latino Americans are in the same position like we, but on the other hand you dont have that Oedipus complex between mums and their sons.

    4. "But the difference is that Latino gays..." :D

I agree that most parents in Serbia wish to keep controlling their adult children's lives, but I'm not sure that adult children willfully remain in such relationships with their parents, I think they are usually forced to by the economy situation...
I have seen men like you've described, emotionally dependent on their parents, but I think they're a minority, at least in my experience.

  4. Hi!
First of all I just want to say that I think your blog is amazing! I wish I knew about it a year ago when I lived there and needed “therapy” as you call it. The observations you have made are very accurate and amusing. Whoever is claiming different probably never set a foot out of Serbia or has a serious delusion problem (the latter is more likely and also a huge problem of Serbian people). I am Serbian myself but I have to admit I hate my own country. I am ashamed of this but considering that I have spent first 11 years of my life in constant war and poverty caused by corrupted system I believe I have every right to feel that way. Obviously I took the first chance possible to pack my bags and leave that wretched place. I have spent 5 years living in the States where I experienced normal life. It was nice to see that people can enjoy their lives without spending countless hours in coffee shops and discussing latest gossips about Ceca and Karleusa. Anyhow, I was kinda unlucky and in a weird twist of fortune I had to leave the States and go back to Belgrade. No need to say that it was the worst moment of my life. I have spent 1 year and 3 months living in Belgrade trying to claw my way out of that hell hole. I have finally managed to escape to Norway, where I currently live happy as a clam. But that 1 year and 3 months have scared me for life. I know a lot of countries are not doing so well right now but Serbia is on a completely different level. The saddest part is that young people have absolutely no future and they don’t even realize it. Partying on party boats till 6 am and living with parents till age 40 is far away from a fulfilling life. I do not think you are being mean when you are writing about Belgrade and Serbian people. It is more like an honest observation of a culture that is currently at its darkest hour.

Also, what wrong with living with parents? I have my own apartment which I use to shove my dick down my girlfriends throat (do you do deepthroat) but I mostly live with my parents?

    2. Part # 1:

After more than a few months in here I came to agree with you in more than a 100%. I don't want to talk about the males (cuz they've seem to have been completely and very consciously depicted here), but unfortunately you have described the gone-wrong mentality of serbian women as well. At first I thought that by being easterners they might have a stronger set of family values and a non-financial oriented mentality..I was dead wrong!

Serbian women are no different in any way to any of their western counterparts, since both seem to have a normal appreciation that the money is a desirable convenience to have around, but the difference is that most of western women nowadays won't accept it from the men but they'd rather go and get it themselves (rather than drinking coffee all day long) and even in the cases when they take it from the men... they're so damn smart about it; let me elaborate:

A western woman do consider "money is important" and some of them are willing to chose their partners based upon that, but in order to chose they look at certain essential conditions for their partners to have such as education, character and real personal belongings. Education is usually of utmost importance because they know that a professional partner will never have a low wage income (not in every country in the west, but surely in the highly desirable ones) and therefore he could easily provide them with the security and commodities they seek to have. Character is usually essential for a western intelligent woman because they know that a discrete partner will allow them to have a peaceful, balanced relation. And real personal belongings do not (ever) include the car nor the clothes nor the wad of cash that the man could be carrying, because in those countries anyone could buy a great second hand car for little money (and most of the time it's not even paid for in cash because we have very easy access to credit), and that's why a western woman will certainly NOT fall for your car, i.e. a Porsche 911 for $8600,00 and available on credit for $200,00 a month:

    3. Part # 2:

Real personal belongings do not (ever) include the clothes since everyone with a job has access to any clothes of their choice in a country which is famous for being an inexpensive shopping paradise, so trust me, any lowlife could easily look like a maharaja, so women WILL CERTAINLY NOT GO for your shinny clothes Lol, and third, anybody with a job (pretty much anyone) could put a big ball of cash within their pockets, that doesn't necessarily mean the man is loaded at all and women do know that very well.

Real personal belongings DO INCLUDE a house (not just a flat) registered on your name, on which you live yourself alone (instead of being a mommy's guest up until your 50's) and in which she will surely recognize the presence of (very) expensive furniture and commodities. Additionally, she will put especial attention to your personal hobbies and preferences. If you can afford, for example, to travel here and there at any given time, that pretty much will tell them "he's gotta spare cash for it sufficiently enough to write me into the bill". If you're just a cheap pub drinker they're certainly way above your league brate moj.

In comparison to that, Serbian women seem to avoid the quiet guys (to their own peril), preferring instead the loud, obscene bozos who are boasting how 'rich' they're tonight (although they'll have to eat in a pekara and use the public transportation the day after) ..they will certainly go for the clothes (the shinier the better even if it's all fake), and they will certainly go for the cash, although most likely the man will never see another pile like that for many many months to come. As an example, I've got a good serbian friend (educated entirely in the west) whose family are pretty well off in here (owners of some big factory in the north of Serbia), so far that they've bought him an apartment in the city center as a token of their love. He had learned to be discrete with his possessions, and when we're hanging out there, women (always) stupidly pick up those loud, vulgar, empty headed bozos without even looking at him..I'd pity the fool I'd say. The rest of the time they seem to be happy for limitless hours in coffee shops and the likes of it..completely BUBBLE HEADS!!

At first and for some time I was looking for someone different. Although I live alone and drive myself around I thought I wouldn't ever need to cash those in for company. That was long ago though because I definitely gave up on that. There are thousands, probably millions of good, different serbian women, but each and every single one of them seem to be far out there already (just like yourself), and the few good remaining ones are so busy with preparing to leave that we've got no chance to discover them in here..too bad I didn't find you here before you left, we'd probably had an awesome conversation and I'd surely have a better perception of serbian society as a whole, opinion which seems to be replicated by the thousands of foreigners who stayed in here for more than a few months.

  5. @Marija: You are right to be ashamed of yourself. I am ashamed of you as well. I have Serbian, USA and UK citizenships and have lived in all 3 countries for years/decades. I have never blamed circumstances or a country for my shortcomings. I always asked myself "What is it that I can do to make things better". To say that people in Serbia have no opportunities and/or future is simply not true. There are many good examples of success.

    1. I would totally agree with your comment if I didn't spend 2013 in Serbia :) Unfortunately the country has taken a huge downfall in the last couple of years. It is sad to see how many young and smart people have left the country because it had nothing to offer them. My shortcomings in Serbia are mostly caused by the fact that my mom and dad are not some big shots able to buy me a “success story”. But, in every other country I am able to rely on my education and hard work and do just fine ;)

    2. Exactly!! According to (serbian government's) official figures, one of the main reasons of the huge demographic threat the country is facing is due to the immense and continuous exodus the country is generating. Now the (government) figures depict an approximate 38 thousand people abandoning Serbia every year, but I bet you anything that the number is even higher than that. Many of them are entire families (mostly young in between early childhood until adulthood in working ages) who have been claimed by their foreign naturalized relatives under family unification laws, and the remaining are (exclusively) a large amount of young highly educated people. Many of that people had acquired their extensive education under government scholarships (or "budžet" as they call it there), and then they're literally forced out of Serbia upon completion due to the fact that their society won't give a rat's ass in order to attempt to use their skills and education. The United States alone is welcoming around (minimum) 6 thousand highly skilled youngsters under several programs and options of permanent immigration every year. A great victory for the interested parties hence the new immigrants will go to fulfill their dreams and the receiving country will put their talent and skills to work, but in the other hand, a great loss for the insolently lazy society who silently preferred them to go.

Some people might say "no, I know this case of the friend of my friend and it didn't go well and therefore the west sucks". Although it might be true that some of those cases might exist, we must underscore that whichever aftermath of those cases IT IS NOT the fault of the (receiving) country but because of a failure in choosing the right options of immigration instead. If you're planning to get the hell out, don't attempt to go and overstay on a tourist visa or whichever other first option on a whim, calm down and research for a bit until you're fully aware of your options for there are multiple alternatives of permanent immigration for skilled individuals in a handful of excellent countries, and one of them is going to be the right one for you. I understand that you may want to get the hell out, but it's better to wait a few months for a thoughtful process of immigration than risking your chances due to desperation.

The good thing after all is that for some wonderful miracle of nature (that actually works for our (western) advantage), is that mostly the educated, progressive, kind and open minded individuals are the ones in choosing to leave (the best people), meanwhile the rest (the brutal, aggressive, impolite, uneducated, chauvinistic and extremely prejudiced people) do truly believe that 'Serbia is a paradise' and therefore they'd prefer to starve in their own sinkholes.. prijatno bre, we shouldn't ever try to convince them otherwise for humanity's sake, they few rotten ones that fell out of the pot had caused enough damage already.

  6. I completely agree with you Marija. With every your word. You can imagine how I am feeling here 3 years without any possibility to escape.

Everything you and Doot said is true, but you both forget to mention that you have to join to party to get ANY KIND of job (after that people say that communism was bad) and also if you are a girl like me - without husband and kids nobody wants to hire you because they afraid you will marry and have kids...
I am not hating Serbia, but I am frustrated...

    1. Thanks :) I completely understand how you feel. I was actually so frustrated with being unemployed and borrowing money from my parents that I took on a job at a local supermarket. It was devastating to carry boxes and chop salami after 4 years of college but after sending like 500 job applications I decided to settle. All I have to say is- hang in there!

  9. @Marija: What "in any other country"? You can count on one hand countries where you can rely solely on "education and hard work" if any; and this is mostly if you are happy to be at the bottom of the pile. When you come to get a position that really matters you will see how "connections" are unimportant. In any country.

  10. How could someone live in Serbia and write this things? WTF why don´t you leave Serbia immediately. Serbia really doesn´t need such idiots like you! I am a foreigner, visiting Serbia several times and I like the country and the people are the nicest in the world. They welcome foreigners with full heart and are so kind, shame on you writing such terrible things and spreading lies into the world!

  11. Best blog ever. I laughed and laughed at "WHY DIDNT YOU TELL ME BEFORE?!" I'm a Serb living in Canada, thank my parents every day for hauling my ass outta there. The countrys economy is crap, the people are too proud, rude, narcissistic. I went back a few times, and it's just so sad to see what it's become. Keep writing!

  12. I had originally drafted a big rant about how much of a low-life you are and was ready to hit "publish" until I realised, what the fuck, I never post on random blogs and tonight won't be the first time.

Anyway, I decided to actually read a couple more of your blog posts, and then you won me over. They are pretty damn funny, and you are pretty spot on with them. I was born in Serbia, but have been living in Australia for most my life now, though I visit family in Serbia almost every year. So safe to say I can relate to all your experiences.

Anyway, point of my post is, I totally agree with your observations, but I can't help feel a little sad you have this up for the whole world to see (serbian pride kicks in). I think only people who have actually lived in Serbia can relate to your blog posts, so I hope this blog doesn't deter the adventure seeker. I still have hope that Serbia will get its shit together someday.
